A Practical Guide to Recycling Almost Anything!
Recycling isn't difficult to do, but like a good (or bad) habit, you need to do it a few times, so it becomes automatic. It can be accomplished in many different ways, from turning in a soda can for a deposit, to selling an antique lamp. When the main goal is to keep your resources out of the landfill lots of exciting possibilities exist.
Do you need help dealing with "Stuff" overload? Do you ever wish you could trade the unwanted items in your home for the things you really want or need? Are you concerned about environmental issues? Are you looking for alternate ways to reduce, reuse and recycle? If so, this guide will help you find the best answers for your situation.
Keeping your resources out of the landfill can be as involved and consuming as you let it. The goal is to explore options available so you can choose the ones that are best suited to your needs. We are all different, with different lifestyles, so we should construct a plan that reflects our individuality.
Some items will need to be recycled in the classic sense, which is to melt it down and reform it. This works well with metal and glass items. Paper and plastic can also be reworked to make new items.
The most energy efficient way is to reuse the item, either for a new use, or the same use, with a different owner. Such as used clothing, being reused to make rag rugs, or sold at a thrift shop to a new owner.
The third part of the cycle is reduce. This can be accomplished in many ways, such as carpooling, buying in bulk to reduce the amount of packaging, and reusing to reduce the amount of trash accumulating in our landfills.
This isn't about giving up things or sacrificing. It is about using your resources wisely and making conscious decisions about what you feel is important. Every little bit we do helps, and if we all do our part it adds up to a lot.
